Hello, London!

It’s been almost a year since I came back to Thailand after the graduation. I brought my road bike back with me and started training again. Cycling in Thailand is much different in London or in Europe especially the weather. But what is the same thing is for those who crazy in cycling is they are SaddleDrunk too!

Weekend ride at Sky Lane and Bike Terminal Café

Luckily, my house is near Suvarnabhumi International Airport located on the east-end of Bangkok. The airport has just opened the safest outdoor bicycle track in the country. Sky Lane, is so called from the most counts of cyclists’ votes. The track was first opened two years ago with the green pavement (it was once called Green Lane). After closing for six months renovation, the improved circuit has come back with facilities for safety condition, the place has become the most famous destination for bicycle lovers ever since.

The 23-kilometer circuit covers with blue color and smooth asphalt. The six-meter-wide lane provides space enough for the slowest cyclist on the left and the faster on the right. The track opens everyday from 6 AM to 7 PM. And it could be a heavy traffic in the evening and in the weekend.

Flatted Sky Lane however is not that easy to ride, as over 70% of the circuit is under sided wind and headwind. The strongest wind I have ever experienced was around 35 – 40 km/h for almost 10 kilometers!

For those who wants to join cycling at Sky Lane here are the tips.

  • It’s free of charge but you need to bring your own bicycle and ID cards, a passport is required for foreigners to get a SNAP wristband. (Bicycle rent are not available right now)

  • Touch your SNAP to get in.

  • For those who want to have a serious training or focusing, avoid the evening ride and early morning on the weekend.

  • A helmet and a rear light are strictly required. Sandals are not allowed.

  • Slow on the left, faster on the right. Please share the road by send some signals when taking over bicycles in the front.

  • Parking is available for 1500 cars.

  • Save this emergency number to your mobile phone +66 (0) 83 023 777 (serious puncture, fainting, found an accident, or want to quit the track)

  • Rucksacks are not allowed to bring inside the lane for security reasons.

After finish the training, it is a recovery time!  There is the nearest bicycle shop and café called Bike Terminal.

It opens from Tuesday to Sunday from 7am to 9pm. The shop sells bicycles, parts, and accessories, the mechanics there are willing to help you on any troubles with your bicycle.

The café serves all day breakfast, drinks and snacks.

Some staff can speak English. They would love to help visitors on any inquiries.

The cafe arrange some group ride in the evening and on the weekend too, if interest please contact for more information +66 (0) 81955 4549 or visit http://www.bike-terminal.com.

Another option for tourist is by taxi. My favorite taxi company is All Thai Taxi because the drivers are well trained and rarely found cheating. Plus, they always welcome cyclists. Some of the private taxi driver is bicycle-friendly too. Here are the contact number for taxi services.
