Few weeks ago I was approached by an Head Teacher of a Nursery to attend her school.
I was flabbergasted for the invite she gave me.I did ask her what was the reason behind the invitation. She kindly replied to me asking if I could give a lesson to Nursery children on how to repair a bicycle tyre puncture.
Then, I have asked her if I had to demonstrate how to do it, show the tools and the kit required to do so.
I had the chance to prepare myself with the correct tools, kit and anything to take in consideration when you deal with 3 to 5 years old children for their own safety, school rules and regulations.I packed my rucksack with a wheel from my son's old bike, few inner tubes,a pump, puncture repair kit few other spares patches.
Last thursday morning, I was really excited on my way to the school, that I have arrived 30 minutes before start time.If I tell my father about that he will be in shock, when I was a student I use to struggle to get at school on time.
Anyway, after sorting all formalities with the school, the Head Teacher Miss M took me to the class where 25 well educated children welcomed me with a great and loud "Good Morning' and big smiles.
The lesson started very well,I have introduced myself and then like a thunder an hour lesson was coming to an end.The children were able to interact, participate individually or has a small teams and able to get their hands on the tools and kit.
I have explain to them about always carry a puncture repair kit, pump and mostly that a puncture should never stop them cycling or an excuse to not ride.
They thanked me and applauded me, making me feel really happy for the fact that 25 children have learned to repair a puncture.
